I finished watching both the anime series of St. Luminous Mission High School and Tokyo Underground last week. I'll try to avoid spoiling the endings too much (can't guarantee about the followups), but both seemed to conclude in a hurry. The ending of SLMHS had the results for three of the characters unresolved, as well as the actual cause for their most recent problem, and the one responsible for it was never figured out. And in TU, it goes from the lives of every character in the show being in peril, before ending with the lives of 98% of them not being resolved.

Am I missing something here? Was there an implied ending for those characters that I didn't pick up on? Was the ending for the manga more complete? Neither series could continue as a sequel as is without introducing a new storyline, so it's not like they were leaving room for a second season.

Did you watch all 13 episodes, or only the 12 that were fansubbed (source material for the 13th not being available, it has been said)?

Episode 13 is definitely available fansubbed - AnimeKeep just took a long, long time to get it out for some reason.

I agree with the original poster though, the ending was really too rushed. After such a big build up, it looked like they ran out of time and had to cram it in.

And Royko deserved more screen time too...

***** SPOILER SPACE FOR THE ENDING OF SLMHS ****

[Hopefully that's enough]

And I'm not too sure I understood the ending anyway. What I think happened was that Kaihe's grandfather was in a sort of limbo - his spirit/soul didn't really realise until it was dead until Kaihe told it. The girls who disappeared were emotionally damaged in some way and that being in the same 'limbo' state with Kaihe's grandfather cured their problems. Presumably, the missing three are still to screwed up to return and will return at some stage.

I still need to rewatch the series though to see if that's even close to being right.

Cheers
