Hmmmm...I guess I'd better throw up a spoiler alert for those who've not seen the series...

OK, I saw 'El Hazard: The Wanderers' first and knew that those characters would be mere shadows of their OAV selves. However, I have to say that when I saw the end of episode 1/beginning of episode 2, I was actually shocked at Alielle's character. What the...?! Am I the only one who was really bothered by having a clearly underaged girl be the lesbian lover of Princess Fatora? Then they had this little girl make comments about being turned on when seeing Makoto in his Fatora guise. And then in episode 3, Alielle comes on to the priestest in the bath. Maybe I'm being overly sensitive, but man, this really bothered me and is ruining what is otherwise a very interesting series.

Your thoughts please...

This is a fairly common complaint of those who forget that western sensibilities don't apply to anime. Remember that the concept of 'underaged' varies depending on where on (or off) the planet you are.

Well, it is one extremely effective way to make quite obvious that El Hazard is *_not_* Earth...

Belive it or not, Alliele's behaviour is leading up to a humourous 'payoff' in OAV #7. I won't spoil it for you here, except to say it's one line she says in that episode.

Being bothered by lolicon and watching anime would seem to be mutually exclusive activities.

That aside...no, it doesn't bother me in the slightest. Alielle is cute, and Fatora is cool. They're not real people, and frankly, Alielle is clearly mature enough to make her own decisions about what she wants in life. If it makes you feel better, pretend Alielle's had a Minney-May done on her and is older than she looks, which is probably true anyway.

says...

Makoto was rather shocked, too. ^_^

The story has a decidedly 'Arabian Nights' flavor; and one of things you learn about royals in such stories is, they can get away with anything.

It is, I will admit, a bit unexpected; but the main thing is, Alliele seems quite happy being Fatora's lady-in-waiting / bed partner / co-conspirator. If there was anything that suggested she didn't like her situation, that would be different. But as it is, young though she is, I don't find much to object to.

Except Fatora. But you'll have to wait until episode 7 to understand why I don't like HER.

I like Alliele-chan. If she didn't have such an appealing personality, she'd be a real pest. As it is, her hormonal overdrive and instant attraction to any strong willed, dynamic woman that crosses her path is mainly comic relief, not to be taken too seriously...
