A while back I made inquiries as to the availability of 'Tenchi Muyo! GXP' fansubs as I wasn't finding them beyond episode 12 or so (18 if you count those bloody awful HK rips). Several of you here were kind enough to inform me that GXP had been licensed in America and thus all of the fansubbers (but ILA) had stopped those projects as a courtesy to the licensor. In this case, GXP is supposedly licensed by FUNimation. However, I find nothing that states this is official!
I find a blurb on AnimeOnDVD.com that states that GXP is licensed by FUNimation and that the announcement was made on September 1, 2002 at AXNY. I assume that is some sort of convention. Yet there are no press releases or any other official announcements stating that FUNimation indeed has the license for GXP.
What got me started on this kick was ELL's announcement of the licensing of 'Azumanga Daioh'. I was surprised not to find anything other than a blurb on Anime News Network from January 2003 (there were a couple of other sites that mentioned the same thing but referenced ANN). ADV says nothing on their official site.
And speaking of ADV, they supposedly have the license to 'Those Who Hunt Elves 2'. This would be reasonable considering they have the license to 'Those Who Hunt Elves'. However having the license to a title doesn't entitle you to its sequels or movies. 'Oh My Goddess' is done by AnimEigo but the movie ('Ah! My Goddess'

was done by Pioneer (money talks I guess). I'm still looking through ADV's archive of information but have yet to find an official released on TWHE2.
So now I'm wondering about these supposed licensing announcements. Other titles get press releases. But it seems in the case of GXP and TWHE2, it did nothing more than stop fansub efforts.
