I saw a thread posted a half year ago about this subject, but I guess at the time the Inuyasha manga hadn't ended yet. I was wondering if anyone knew whether Inuyasha had a true ending (like Maisson Ikkoku did) or if was another open ended one (like Ranma 1/2)? I personally like the solid endings, and I hope Inuyasha has one too since it seems to possess a lot of the characteristics of a single story (introduction of characters, plotline, etc).

Well, currently (I'm reading Chinese translated manga) the manga is in the midst of a multi-volume story arc about the revival of 7 evil human mercernaries, and the search for the temple of a living saint. I can somewhat sense the end in sight, but not actually in sight.

Oh, I had thought this series had already been completed in manga form. It's still being written by Rumiko Takahashi (I hope I remembered her name right)? Hopefully they'll keep making more episodes of Inuyasha, I know there are at least 96 so far. I think it's easily one of the best anime out there right now.

The manga isn't done yet. Sometimes open endings are good, I think people tend to get too hung up on the ending and don't look at the overall story. Most manga artists don't have an ending in mind when they start a manga and just kind of go with it until they find out which characters and couples become popular or what not.

Ano... Ranma 1/2 (the manga, at least) has a true ending... (Or does the final scene, of Ranam and the girl he finally chose running off into the sunrise to start their life together, not count as an ending?)

It seems to be basically that Shampoo was genuinely in love with Ranma at the time, and then Ranma 'revealed' that he was actually only a girl, which meant that the love was hopeless.

One could make an argument that since Ranma told that semi-vicious lie, he is entirely deserving of most of what Shampoo does to him later. Which doesn't make Shampoo less of a conniving bitch, of course.

Yeah, but she's still a minor character. Bigger than Kasumi, but in a sobering comparison, Shinnosuke (a one-shot character) is spotlighted in more issues than Nabiki is.

Although, my major point was that Nabiki was minor, so she never got character -development-; ie, her character evolving through experience into something different. She did get lots of character -revelation-, though: we knew very little about Nabiki in volume 1, and found out more later.

Maybe we can carry on this discussion sometime when you're not acting like a total asshole. I don't mind discussing or debating differing interpretations of Takahashi's work, but try to keep it civil. I realize being nasty is your little schtick, but that doesn't mean I'm obligated to deal with it. I mean, honestly, you're a reasonably intelligent human being, I assume you were raised with some semblance of manners and/or a working knowledge of the rudiments of politeness. Try to act like it sometimes.

I haven't read the early manga chapters, but in episodes 2-4 of the anime, Kuno IS a serious threat. At one point, he manages to bruise Ranma just from the wind pressure of coming close to hitting him. His sword is also shown smashing through granite walls, implying that if he manages to make contact with Ranma he'll tear him apart. Akane also warns Ranma that the angrier Kuno gets, the more powerful he becomes. Ranma also says he believes that Kuno let's Akane win their fights. He's basically Bluto to Ranma's Popeye. I would suspect some of this stuff is in the manga.

After episode 4, of course, Kuno is a complete buffoon.

Ranma demolished him. He bruised Ranma. Yes, if Kuno had hit him, he'd be, as Akane put it, 'breathing through a hole in his neck.' But Kuno couldn't hit him, so that's kinda irrelevant.

See above. If Kuno could hit Ranma, he'd be a threat. If pigs had wings, they could fly.

After episode 4, we realize Kuno is a complete buffoon. Kuno is never a threat to Ranma; he just does some impressive stuff in his initial appearance that makes him look like he might be a threat

Actually, only Akane implies that. Smashing through stone walls is kid stuff for Ranma. He can smash stone walls without even noticing, just by running around excitedly. Ryouga can smash stone walls with a single finger, also without noticing, WITHOUT using the bakusai ten ketsu technique.

Yes, all of it is. There's also something else:

Kunou tries to hit Ranma for several minutes, in their first fight, while Ranma isn't fighting back, and can't touch him. Can't even come close.

Also in their first fight, Ranma jumps right in front of Kunou and tattoos a message on his forehead. Despite the fact Ranma is concentrating on this and not dodging as strenuously, Kunou is still unable to hit him. Yes, this time he comes -close-. But he still doesn't hit him, even with a gold-plated opportunity. And also, while there is a mark, Ranma doesn't even notice it until Akane points it out...not exactly that impressive.

Ranma also never shows any concern for Kunou as an opponent whatsoever. And contrary to popular belief, he is not so arrogant that he totally ignores obviously strong opponents. Kunou is not such; Ranma never believes such, and the series (manga or anime) never implies he is such.

Smashing stone walls with a wooden sword, making a slight bruise without hitting someone, and even cracking stone with the air pressure of strikes is flat-out impossible in the real world, and very impressive in most series'. For instance, Kunou has most Kenshin characters beaten hollow.

But in Ranma, that doesn't make Kunou impressive. Sure, he's superhuman. So's Akane. Neither of them are even worth noticing compared to the REAL fighters. Neither of them are ever shown as if they are such (aside from random one-off super-powerups like the Battle Dougi).

Kunou always WAS. That's the point.

It is. In fact the first few episodes of the anime follow the first Graphic novel quite closely, with only slight differences (mostly that the anime makes stuff go on longer).
