OK, a couple of things that bothered me the first time, and seeing it again but this time in English made me recall. In the Ad-Vid Notes, when the mafia guys' feet running the car, what's the ref to 'The Simpsons' when I thought The Flintstones? Furthermore, at the end, who is Hiyato Miyazaki? *cough*cough*
OK, it's more than a couple. For some reason the DVD player sees 2 Eng and 2 Jap audio tracks (IIRC, 1&3 and 2&4 respectively) when they're all just 2.0 stereo. I also notice that Excel, even in the original, tends to shout a lot in a rapid voice even when the close-up face+mouth animation doesn't seem to look like it (press mute while watching and you wouldn't think she's shouting). As for the new Excel voice... how she doing....
Well, aren't the Excel Saga menus crazy to navigate? It's confusing when to press up/down or left/right. And the colors: sometimes the present-state option and the moving selectable option colors are the same. You won't know where you are unless you move first.
Why don't more DVDs list which ep #s they contain? I mean, this isn't like the old multi-multivolume VHS days when they gotta hide ep & vol numbers with made-up tape titles. (Something about shops reluctant to stock more than 5 back-volumes.) Plus, with series nowadays quite short and each DVD having more eps.... Heck, Excel Saga DVDs already show the vol #s prominently, would it be a greater bother to list the ep #s as well?
OK, that's all folks! For now.... ;p

Theyre drawn in the Matt Groening style.
Uhh,,im pretty sure you mean Hayao Miyazaki,,the guy behind such animes as totoro, spirited away, etc.
If you look carefully you can see the ep numbers on the menu shots on the back of the box

You mean the Simpsons/Futurama style specifically? (Groening's Beavis & Butthead and King of the Hill are another.) I considered that, but it still looks too 'generic' for me to recognize it as ala Simpsons/Futurama which I'm familiar. Plus, that '2D looney' sequence is not typical of Groening (unless he's parodying someone else's style, that is). Either Nabeshin truly bastardized it, or I still don't see it.
Yes, and it was misspelled as 'Hiyato Miyazaki.' ;-p (Oh the humanity! Oh the disrespect! Oh the....)
So the Ad-Vid Notes get the more obscure references but messed up on a couple of the easy ones. Well, I guess sometimes the most obvious are the most difficult.
Nope, I still don't see it (looking at Excel v.5 DVD). Besides, why does one need to look carefully at small pics? Why not just make it easy to look for in the first place? List them in nice legible font text where easily seen. As far as I'm concerned, a better informed consumer is a happier buyer.
(OK, I just checked; it seems the ep #s are on the menu shots on the other Excel volumes but not on vol 5, illustrating that the point of those small pics is to show the menu shots themselves, not to list the ep #s, which are just by-products. Still, the point stands - I don't like reading fine print either.)

Matt Groening did NOT do Beavis and Butt-Head nor King Of The Hill. The name you are looking for is Mike Judge. Judge also gave us the live action movie Office Space, which was based on animated shorts he did around the same time as the first B&B shorts, featuring the downtrodden Milton and his boss Mr. Lumberg.

Hey,,even the Ad-Vid notes missed SOME stuff (nabeshin being a bebop parody, the puuchus being an obvious pokemon parody, the matrix parody in episode #9).

Well, they're for the more obscure stuff. Those are so obvious notes would be a waste . . .
