The title of the 12th episode was 'Suzu no mi, Sugikoshi no matsuri, Yuuwa'. 'Sugikoshi no matsuri' is originally a Japanese translation of the Passover in the Bible, but large percent of Japanese are not familiar with the term and the episode didn't show any hints of Jehovah passing over the doors marked by Jewish people.
Apparently, as well as the Passover, the angel look of Haibane, the monastery look of The Old Home and the heavily ethical themes such like sin, forgiveness, friendship and devotion strongly suggests Christianity. Still, 'Haibane Renmei' is not a story of Christianity but a story of humanity.
The final episode was dramatic yet serene, warm, bright and almost sacred story. Very impressive, touchy and unforgettable work of art.
We would be able to be a Haibane when we try to be good and just can believe in people. I hope so.

*spoilers*
. . . . . . . . . . . . .
I don't not sure about the meaning of Rakka's true name. [Which is also pronounced Rakka, interestingly] The Kanji fonts are a bit stylized.
If I'm not mistaken it means 'entwined in good fortune'
Am I correct?
Anyway, I would hope for a 2nd season, but given Abe's track it's unlikely.

Your subject said 'no spoiler', but you have spoiler space. Given that I don't want to be spoiled, really like 'Haibane', and would be glad to discuss it, should I read this post?

I wasn't the originator of the thread. He started his thread without spoilers. My reply has spoilers, albeit not massive ones. Ie: Darth Vader is Luke's

The Kanji that Rakka was given first time meant 'falling down', but after her sin was forgiven, the Kanji changed to mean 'pleasure fruit' as her real name.
I also hope for a second season, but the finale of this series was so great and I think any addition would be redundant.

Thanks. I'm not well versed with Kanji, especially if they are written in wierd fonts. ^^
Is it 'pleasure fruit' as in the biblical pleasure fruit? Is that how it is spelled in the Japanese Bible?
Well, I would hoped to see it go on to the time you know who crosses over. Just one more season, that's all that I ask for.

Plus it seems like a twin Haibane would be a good start for a new arc. Unlike the others they have each other to relate to in the new world.

I know. Because even Japanese don't read it very easily.
Her real name is merely a combination of two kanji which have the same sound as her false name. It's not a standard Japanese word but Abe-san's original. The first kanji means happy, pleasant, delightful or the kinds. And the second kanji means a fruit, nut, berry and also a result. 'Pleasure fruit' is my interpretation of the kanji.
In the Bible, if you mean the forbidden fruit, it's 'kindan no kajitsu' in Japanese.
In the booklet enclosed in the first DVD, which was released today, it's said that Abe-san wrote 500 pages of script and settings which is far too long for a 13 episode series and the director had to cut it short. So, it's likely to be able to make another season for a collection of, say, the daily life of Haibane.
Another omake of the release is a CD-R which contains 3DCG data of some characters of Haibane Renmei. The CD-R also contains a demo version of Shade 6 professional and PhysiAnime2 that can read the data and generate a rendering so that you can create your own drawing of Haibane. I didn't do it myself yet, but I wil try. As a reminder, the product number is:
Pioneer PIBA-1411, one episode, 23 minutes, 16:9 letter box. Region 2, Japanese sound track only (lenear PCM). 2,000yen
