I have the first two large volumes (850 or so pages each), and the MAD Magazine influence is readily obvious (primarilly Harvey Kurtzman and Sergio Aragones, with some Jack Davis thrown in for good measure); I have seen several older TV episodes and a couple of the movies, but I have never seen Mamo, so I can't make a good comparison. However, for anyone not put off by unpolished artwork, I would easily recommend reading it; the stories are very funny in the right places (usually Lupin, especially after the first several stories, going to bed...ah, unrequited, as it were), but the story is well carried along by the action and spy/crime antics. Sorta like Austin Powers, except Lupin is actually entertaining IMO.
