I've been an anime fan for a long time and lately I have been pretty much a casual viewer, usually watching the big films like Miyazaki stuff, VHD 2000 and Jin-Roh etc.
I haven't gotten into many series because they release them too slow or do a poor job and I would rather wait until they are all out and watchable. Still, true fandom for me probably started with Robotech Macross saga. This, I think, may be the first time when I really knew what anime was and that it was foreign. (I can't remember if I knew Star Blazers or G-Force was Japanese)
I just watched the first OVA Episode of Macross Zero. I won't say anything to give away important story points, but seeing the first Veritech Fighter (Variable Fighter in Japanese version) in action and seeing it transform made me feel like such a fan boy! It was to cool. Add to that Fokker actually shows up so there's that connection to the nostalgia of the original. I have none of the DVDs of Robotech so aside from Macross Plus and watching the new Macross XBOX game (which also brought back fan boy feelings and nostaliga) I haven't seen anythign Macross in along time!
It's unfortunate the it will be months before the next video is even released in Japan. Judging by the visual quality though, it can't be easy to make these.
