Imports on Ebay/Amazon legit?

There are several sellers on Ebay, Amazon and half.com that sell import box sets for cheap prices (usually about half what the domestic versions cost). I bought a Trigun box set not really thinking that it might not be 'legitimate'.

Both the packaging and DVDs seem to be of excellent quality. The only differences seem to be that the packaging is more compact and the series comes on less DVDs (3 instead of 5 I think?). There is nothing to indicate that they are not legitimate copies except they are imported from Hong Kong and are 'Region 0'.

The sellers advertise these as being 'identical' in content to the domestic releases and as far as I can tell they are. Same dubbed voices, same English subtitles and seemingly the same picture quality. I've always heard bootleg Hong Kong imports are of inferior quality but these sure don't seem to be. Anybody know if they are in fact legitimate releases or bootlegs?
