here's the deal: Talking to someone who really likes Rolemaster (me), a friend of mine who also likes Rolemaster ( a system that many describe as complicated... even unnecessarily complicated) says that D&D 3rd Edition is more complicated than 2nd Edition. This was said as a good, positive thing. [and that, folks, is my best way of coming up with a 'working definition'].

like dropping an outhouse full of shit/maggots/disease on a demon in another dimension? nah... i've been in enough bizarre campaigns.

Speaking of RPGs and other miscellany...

Something occurred to me after finishing the collected Azumanga Daioh (manga).

What D&D alignment would you assign to each of the characters?

I'll kick things off with a possibly-controversial one:

Yukari: Chaotic Evil...

Nyamo, Chiyo-Chan, Sakaki, Kagura: Lawful Good. Kaorin: Neutral Good (?) Kimura: Lawful Evil Yomi: Lawful Neutral. Tomo: Chaotic Evil. Maya: Lawful Neutral. Tadakichi: Lawful Good. Kuro-Neko: Lawful Evil. Chiyo's Otosan: Chaotic Neutral

And finally

Osaka: Chaotic Purple [1].

Interesting choices. I don't know that I'd classify Nyamo LG; she seems closer to LN to me. Kagura's also a bit harder to place.

Interesting... I gave him the exact opposite alignment. IIRC there was one description of Chaotic Good which states 'The character follows his own internal moral compass and does what he thinks is right, regardless of what everyone else says.'

I'd agree with that - only Kimura's compass is a tiny bit skewed... CG with a CHA and WIS of 1, maybe.

She's not quite as far gone as Yukari, actually... CN or CE would both be possible.

Upon some thought, you're probably right; at first I'd have tagged her as CG, but she is apparently entirely devoted to following a higher authority (Sakaki), which probably counts more as L than G.

Arguable. See Maya. While Tadakichi doesn't actively mess with other people/animals, he does tend to use his Sakaki-appeal for personal advantage...

Why Lawful? I'm curious.

Absolutely... didn't think about it earlier, but that's exactly it.

If you want to put it that way, perhaps Chaotic Octarine might be more appropriate...

let me preface this by saying i hate d&d alignments...

Sakaki must be Neutral Neutral... just like Druids, with whose philosophy she generally agrees.

he seems... a bit too selfish to be truly chaotic good. i'd normally say chaotic neutral, but that has weird d&d connotations. so i think i'd put him in neutral neutral (and not the kind the druids have...)

tomo has to be chaotic neutral... she's far too erratic for anything else.

is maya the cat? or kaorin? i forget who she is...

because he abides by rules... lik enot biting peopel until they try to pet him.

ooh! octarine!
