Well what about:

o 'Haibane Renmei' o 'Jungle wa Itsomu Hare Nochi Guu' o 'Excel Saga' (Any previous anime with director self-insertion?) o 'Azumanga Daioh' (How many anime have there been that are 'just' about a bunch of friends hanging out - no magic, danger or angst?) o 'Boogiepop Phantom'

True originals, or creative in their recycling?

Creative recycling. Dig back enough and you'll find precedents for all of those (and not necessarily in other, older anime titles; some of the themes in these precede animation). Just like how anything that can be done in the name of music has been done already. This isn't to say that I write off these things because of that, or have very high expectations. I'm not even really complaining. Just stating something that I believe to be true.

Alot of anime series are like 15 min long nowadays.......yes on TV
