So long, Mr. R. Of all the kid's show hosts, you were the most genuine.

Only someone who never saw Captain Kangaroo could say that.

I miss Captain Kangroo myself, used to be rather grateful to put up with him saturday mornings before the rest of the CBS cartoon line-up got off the ground in the early '80s. They don't do shows like that anymore.

Still, I'm gonna miss the Neighborhood of Make-Believe as well. My neighborhood isn't much safer than I thought these days!

No, I can say that too and I was well acquainted with the Captain. The Captain was a playdate - Mr. R was a foster parent to generations. Loved them both as a kid, but Mr. R was the one you'd call if you woke up with a dead hooker.

I did see some Captain Kangaroo, but Mr.Rogers was always my favorite.

I always wanted to live in his neighborhood.

For old times' sake, I put an mp3 of the song up at: http://www.rit.edu/~anh3243/mrrogers.mp3 in case anyone wants to listen to it again. Here's the lyrics:

It's a beautiful day in this neighborhood, A beautiful day for a neighbor. Would you be mine? Could you be mine?...

It's a neighborly day in this beauty wood, A neighborly day for a beauty. Would you be mine? Could you be mine?...

I've always wanted to have a neighbor just like you. I've always wanted to live in a neighborhood with you.

So, let's make the most of this beautiful day. Since we're together we might as well say: Would you be mine? Could you be mine? Won't you be my neighbor? Won't you please, Won't you please? Please won't you be my neighbor?

I always liked that show. Rest in peace, Fred Rogers.
