The one thing that's really bothering me is the way they seem to make it that Shugo fancies Rena! It's not quite like that, but they linger on her curves and make him blush too often - I think it's more of a sense of embarassment that she's doing all these things (like the moment in episode 2 where she gets Data Drained) but it's still a little... pervy.
Aside from the repetition (Shugo levels up, Game Event happens, impossibly difficult monster appears, no-one can beat it, Shugo Data Drains it), and Hotaru's seeming uselessness (though the doggy thing is cute enough to almost make up for it) I've been enjoying this one too.
