Subject says it all. The second OAV series was largely disappointing, even in the music department, but there were a few very striking tracks that I really wanted to get my hands on. I will list what I can remember:

1: Episode four ('The Advent of the Goddess', when Tokimi makes her appearance, an ominous little tune gets played.

2: Same episode, when Ryouko gets captured.

3: Episode five ('Zero Ryoko', when Tenchi and pals make their unprecedented escape from Dr. Clay's collapsing ship, a more upbeat rendition of tune #1 above is played.

I recall owning Ongaku-hen #3, which had some of the BGM from this series, but I do not recall hearing ANY of the above three tunes on it.

I've been made aware of a box set which contains all the music from the first OAV series which had not previously been made available. Fine. Where's the series two version of that? Which CD has this music?

There's a couple Tenchi BGM tracks that I'd like to have as well, but AFAIK they were never released to CD: the fast drum beat from when Tenchi is fighting Kagato in 'We Need Tenchi' (this gets re-played alot in Tenchi Universe), and the theme that's played as the Jurai royal family departs at the end of 'Here Comes Jurai.'

I've got nearly every Tenchi CD released in Japan (just missing some Pretty Sammy CDs and a couple singles and the Shin Tenchi CD-book things), including the Hihoukan box set, which is the set you were talking about, I believe. It does have some BGM tracks that aren't available anywhere else, but it doesn't have the ones I was looking for. I can't remember for sure if any of the tracks were from the 2nd OVAs, but you might want to check it out.

Well, I can't help with the latter, but I KNOW the former was released; I have a copy of it (unfortunately the person who gave it to me did not specify the album); it begins a track titled 'Tenchi: Master Key', if I read correctly. You get the fast drum riff and then the big dramatic version of the main Tenchi theme.

There are a lot of Tenchi music CD's. Try here:
http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/search.html?type=GC& restrict=CD&word=Tenchi

The downside is that they don't tend to have tracks in English. But if you click the link at the bottom of the page that says, 'Open Our Japanese Page (for song samples if available)', this will list the songs in Japanese and often they have samples so you can hear the music on the CD's.

Good luck!

Hmm, we might be thinking of different tracks. It sounds to me like you're thinking of 'Kou-Ou-Ken no Theme' ('Theme of the Light-Hawk Sword,' but it might have been released under a different name on a US CD), which is track 24 on the 2nd OVA OST. I gave that track a listen, and it seems to have the dramatic version of the opening theme like you described.

The BGM track I'm talking about starts playing right after Kagato knocks Azaka & Kamidake away in 'We Need Tenchi', and is also played at multiple points during Tenchi Universe. One specific instance is during the ep where Tenchi and Grandpa rescue the girls from the Jurai ship, and they're fighting all the guards with bo sticks.
