Toradora! Japanese Light Novel

Toradora! is a Japanese light novel series by Yuyuko Takemiya, with illustrations by Yasu. The first novel was released on March 10, 2006, and as of October 10, 2008, nine volumes have been published.

Toradora!’s story begins with the male protagonist RyÅ«ji Takasu who is frustrated at trying to look his best as he enters his second year of high school. Despite his gentle personality, his eyes make him look like an intimidating delinquent, so he is utterly hopeless about his chances of getting a girlfriend and does not have many close friends either.

I wasn’t too familiar with Toradora! before it started airing. All I had under my belt was about two chapters of the manga adaptation, and just from that I had no idea as to what direction it would go in. Toradora!, at an uninformed and cynical glance looks like More Of The Same. Another highschool romantic comedy. What sets it apart from the rest of the pack is how it completely re-writes the rules you have set down in your head about this genre.
