Was Newtype USA cancelled?

Was Newtype USA cancelled? I went to a very good comic book shop in New York, and asked about the shipment of the first issue. The clerk said he was told that the magazine was already cancelled before the first issue came out. Is this true or are there any places to still get the mag?

Well, according to http://www.newtype-usa.com/ in the press release section, there's a press release dated Nov. 1 stating that the press run for issue two will be doubled, and another one dated Nov. 15 giving a partial table of contents for issue two, so at least at the moment, it sure doesn't *look* cancelled. It's supposed to be in retail outlets by Dec. 1.

It wasn't cancelled, it did come out. Animenation says they have it: http://store.yahoo.com/animenation/usanewtype1102.html I don't know any other online place that might have the first issue though.

Far from being canceled they can't keep the things on the shelves. I picked up a copy at Suncoast. My local Kinokuniya (Seattle, Wa) just got in a shipment and I must say that the US version was almost indistinguishable from the Japanese version sitting beside it were it not for the English. They will be doubling the run of the next issue to better meet the demand.

Rule #1: Never listen to clerks at comic or gaming shops unless you know them well, and know where they get their info. More often than not they're either A. pulling something out of their ass, or B. don't know anything more than what the distributor tells them... and they're pulling something out of their ass.
