In-the-flesh Lupin III set to steal hearts in U.S. Naomi Tajitsu Daily Yomiuri Staff Writer
First Hollywood took Godzilla. Now they're after Lupin. U.S. producer Gerald Molen on Tuesday announced he had signed a deal with manga creator Kazuhiko Kato, commonly known as Monkey Punch, and TMS Entertainment to acquire the live-action film rights to the manga series Lupin III. Molen, whose projects include Schindler's List and Jurassic Park (both 1993), will produce at least one film in the Lupin series, with the first installment expected to be released within two years.
Molen would not disclose the monetary amount of the deal and said directors and scriptwriters had not been decided on. However, he emphasized his desire to keep the film true to the original manga.
